Parameter Control For Randomise

I think the software could really do with the ability to select which parameters to randomise and which to not. I think the randomise feature will be a major selling point for this fantastic software.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

This is already planned for a future released. Great to see that the idea is shared by other users.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

I too am looking forward to improved randomise functionality.  The current implementation is great for making noise, but not much that's "musical."

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

I want a randomise option where all keyboard control is kept to 'normal', so you can play the randomised patch on a keyboard. At the moment, I'm not sure how to do this manually. It's just a static sound and you can't change the pitch.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

Hi,

Keyboard mod. must be check on the VCOs.
Check the Oberheim sound (Ctrl-N), it is one of the most basic sound you can do.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

I've tried ticking the KEYBD VCO checkbox, but all that happens is the sound goes away until I untick the checkbox.

Is there any way to automatically fill in the right checkboxes and combos, on a random sound, so that that sound can be played up and down a keyboard?

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

Not at this time.
You must have at least one envelope that modulates VCA2 VOL.  The simplest sound you can make with the Xpander is the Oberheim sound (Ctrl-N), where you remove the ENV1 to VCF FREQ mod in the modulation matrix.
You must keep the ENV2 to VCA2 VOL mod to ear something. Have a look at the Xpander's manual, there are lot of things explained in it.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

In my experience the most useful or at least focused randomize functions are on Native Instruments Reaktor Razor, Spark Prism etc where you can generate patches based upon two selected patches and select mutate by a percentage or randomize based on these two patches. This allows a certain amount of control. Results can be focused and as expected giving a variation of a type of sound to varied and a complete surprise depending on the controls you set and the difference in the patches. Another great randomize feature is in the SoundTower editors ie Voyager,Evolver,Microwave. These allow mutations or randomizations of two patches, where you click generate and about 20 daughter patches are created from the two parent patches and you can scroll through them and see what you like.(personally, I think I prefer the Native instrument method ) I only mention this to inspire you if you are indeed thinking of developing the randomise feature further.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

FYI, the new randomizer function is currently under development. Please don't ask when it will be released wink
I like the idea of the mutation between two patches, this could be an another feature, and is really easy to implement.
Thanks for the ideas.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

How exciting! Further to the above, I think the Soundtower ones have the ability to filter controls, but I was wondering why I prefer the Native instruments method and I came to the conclusion that it's because you generate one patch at a time and then you can tweak or change the controls whereas with Soundtower you have to wade through lots of patches which it generates for you, I think that makes you feel its creating them whereas the one at a time way you feel you're playing more a part of the creation process, (even if you aren't).
Anyway I'm sure you will find your own innovative solutions as you have so ably done with your program. Can't wait to see the result. (and I won't bug you with questions like 'when?' I promise) Many Thanks.

Re: Parameter Control For Randomise

Lots of time  since the last post, so here some news:

- Tone morphing is implemented and still need to be 100% tested
- customized randomization is under development. User will be able to chose the envelope type (organ, string, percussive, etc..., ability to choose mod matrix randomization or not, enable fm/noise/sync randomization or not, etc.....). lots of testing still needed of course,
- (for geeks only): project was migrated from Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2013 and is now privately hosted on visualstudio.com. Source control was migrated form SVN to TFS. This does not change anything for end users but helps me to develop things wherever I'm.
- I hope to release something before the end of the year.

Thank you all guys for using Xplorer smile
