hi, just installed xplorer - everything seems to work fine, but in the 'settings' page my midi interface (emagic amt8) doesn't show up - is there a known compatibility issue or is it a problem with my set up? thanks for your help, ulrich.
Offline
Hi ulrich,
There's no known incompatibility, Xplorer uses the MIDI devices shown by Windows. But if you plug in or power up your MIDI interface after Xplorer is started, it will not detect it. So please ensure your MIDI interface is up and running before starting Xplorer.
Hope this helps,

unfortunately that's not the problem - the amt8 was already plugged in before i opened xplorer - and it works fine with a number of other synth editors i'm using on this computer...

That's a really weird problem. I just googled for it and it seems to be a known issue with the amt8.

Did you tried calling \Program Files\Digidesign\Drivers\MMERefresh ?
Do you have another MIDI interface that shows up / is not showing up in Xplorer ?
Can you please specify the OS you are using (XP/Vista/W7, 32 or 64 bits) ?
Offline
the pc is running xp sp3.
i also have a motu midi interface that i'm using with another computer here: will try to connect it and report!
'Did you tried calling \Program Files\Digidesign\Drivers\MMERefresh ?'
what actually is this? a digidesign application that you recommend installing?
what mainly surprises me is that this problem (the amt8 not showing up) doesn't occur with any of the other editors i'm using...
ok, will see if i'll manage to make some progress here - thanks.

When you say that your interlace does not show up in Xplorer, do you mean that all the MIDI ports choices are all empty, or do you have something else ?
Offline
just some 'internal microsoft wavetable synth' shows up (it appears in other editors as well) - not sure what it is actually. but the amt8 is not listed (= blank fields).
Offline
ps: the 'microsoft gs wavetable sw synth' also only appears as a destination for the xplorer output - the other two choice menus remain completely empty.

Hi Ulrich,
I wrote a little tool that may help me sorting this thing out.
Can you please follow theses steps:
1) Download the archive at this URL:
http://xplorer.programmer.free.fr/downl … erator.zip
2) Unzip the whole content in a temporary folder
3) Launch the executable named "MIDIDevicesEnumerator.exe"
4) You will see a user interface with 2 buttons: one to get the list of the MIDI devices using DirectX, another one using WinMM. The devices will be listed in the list under each buttons.
5) Click on both buttons. Please note that getting devices using DirectX may take some times.
6) Please copy/paste the whole results of each list in this post.
Thank you.

ok - here are the results - this is being displayed for DirectX:

hi, just wanted to ask wether you think this problem will be fixable eventually - no rush: just curious... thanks! u.
Offline
Ulrich,
This test program does exactly what Xplorer does while enumerating the midi devices with WinMM (the Windows MultiMedia API). I really can not understand why this seems to work in a separate program and not in Xplorer. I did some tests with Xplorer and more than 8 virtual MIDI devices and I'm able to enumerate all the devices without problems.
Do you have still the problem with the last version ? (http://xplorer.programmer.free.fr/bb/vi … .php?id=49)
Alternatively, you can try to delete your settings (on XP, C:\ and Settings\All Users\Application Data\xplorer-editor.com\Xplorer\XplorerData\xplorer.users.config) and restart the application.
Offline
hi, just did a reinstall - same problem remains. what still makes me believe that this must be a problem specifically related to xplorer is the fact that i'm not experiencing it with any of the other editors i'm using on this computer... hmmm...

Hi,
The power of the dark side of the force is strong...
I will put extra debug code in the next release for this problem and I will keep you informed on how to activate it.
thank you.
Offline
;-) thanks! fingers crossed...

Just bought the software and have the exact same problem. Emagic unitor 8/Amt8 works with other editors but can't be found in Xplorer for some reason
Hope it will be issued soon..
EDIT: Running XP Service Pack 3..
