Patch browser

I think it would be great to have some kind of patch browser like you see in a lot of VSTs (e.g. Diva, , etc.)

Re: Patch browser

Yeah, I suggested this too via pm.
I don´t want to use different programs for editing and librarian.
Admin, is this going to happen?

Re: Patch browser

Hi,

Why not, I already planned to support bank dump sysex files (containin 99 single patches).

FYI, the next release will add:
- linear movement for knobs,
- set to default value for knobs,
- send tune request to synth

please don't ask me when it will be released smile

Re: Patch browser

Hi,
just bought the Xplorer. Had to download an  driver for my old USB to Midi Edirol box, but here I am at last.
I am a bit computer-retarded and, believe it or not, I have never (with the exception of the Nord Modular a decade ago) used a computer editor for any of my synthesizers....
I believe I am having problems with the  interface of my Xpander. I was going to ask if it is possible to perform a bulk save of all the single and multi presets at once into the computer via Xplorer, as much as I would do with a  [censoring] recorder, when I saw an earlier post where this was mentioned as a possible upgrade in a future revision...so, did I get it right, impossible to save all 100 singles and 100 multis on my computer with one command of the Xplorer at the moment? sad

Thank you
grazie da Roma

Hi ,

You're right, this is not possible at the moment, since Xplorer only edits single tones. But it's is possible to save all the singles and multis of the Xpander using two different methods:

1) The easiest but old school way: Use the  interface. Simply connect the Xpander to your computer using a 3.5 jack cable (Xpander's " to" output into "Line IN" input of your sound card). Record the audio using a audio recording tool like Audacity or Soundforge (the PC acts then as a  recorder). You will be able to play back the audio file into the " From" input of the Xpander to restore all your patches.

2) Using MIDI System Exclusive Messages (SysEx), by sending a "All data dump request" message (see the MIDI specification of the Xpander here: http://xplorer.programmer.free.fr/bb/viewtopic.php?id=4 , page 18/30).
Sending the following Sysex Message:  F0 10 02 02 00 F7, you will get all the data of the Xpander.
AllDataDump

If you are not familiar with computers and MIDI messages this would appear a bit more complicated. Perhaps the best way is to ask a friend who is familiar with SysEx to show you how to do it with MIDI OX for example.

Re: Patch browser

Hi Admin,

thank you very much for your reply.
Yes, I did install Audacity on my computer last week, exactly for the purpose of using it with the Xpander for data saving. While it does get the data from the Xpander (I can see the waveforms of those ugly "fax" noises displayed), when I perform a " Check" by sending them back into the Xpander to see that everything is ok, I get a "not an Xpander [censoring]" message and the check procedure is aborted. Then I made experiments by changing the recording tracks into mono, or lowering the sampling frequency to emulate the reduced response of a  recorder, but no success. Maybe the " in" jack in the Xpander is gone, I do not know, but I live in fear of loosing my beloved programs if anything should happen to the battery.

best

Re: Patch browser

I did a try with and external audio recorder (Zoom H2) (44Khz, 16 bits) and this works just fine. So maybe your  interface is out.
Don't be scared about your battery life, I never changed it in my Xpander, and it is 26 years old... I did not check that, but I  it is a rechargeable one.

Re: Patch browser

ok,
but I can still save patches one at a time with Xplorer into a folder in my computer, right? Time consuming but that should be it, right?

best regards

Re: Patch browser

When the "backup/restore all data" (single + multi patches) feature will be finished (save all data from synth to disk, restore these data to synth).

Already done:
- drag/drop support for single patch sysex
- get all single patches from synth and save them as sysex files to a local folder
- extract all single patches from a bank sysex file and save them as sysex files to a local folder
- led midi monitor in the user interface (all ports)
- smart note off when changing patch (avoid stuck notes)
- force single patch programmer mode at startup
- other minor improvements/fixes

...let's say there will be an  in October '12.
